Bella gently touched the tiny heart shaped locket I'd just put around her neck.
"Oh, Jack, it's so beautiful," she whispered as tears misted her eyes.
"Nothing's too beautiful for you," I told her with a husky catch in my voice.
Tenderly I took her in my arms and kissed her, softly at first, then with more passion as I felt her body press against mine as she responded.
Everything was going according to plan. The opening moves of the seduction scene had gone perfectly, and Bella was playing her part just right...
We were standing under the tree in the park, the tree I always took my latest conquests to It was all part of my carefully worked out seduction technique. When I judged the time was right I'd meet the girl of the moment under my lucky love tree in the park, swear undying devotion, then carve our initials in the bark of the tree.
That was usually enough for most girls, but as an added gesture I'd also give then
a small token as proof of my love -
Bella was no exception to that rule, and the locket really had her going.
I smiled to myself as she fingered the delicate silver heart. In a way she'd been lucky to get it. Originally I'd given it to Susie, my most recently ended romance. She'd gone through the same as Bella with the initials on the tree, the token of love, etc., but like all the others I'd never meant it to last.
A couple of days ago I'd told her it was over and in a fit of temper Susie'd thrown the locket back at me with a few well chosen words! I'd sighed heavily and put on a great act of remorse that things hadn't worked out for us, at the same time pocketing the locket and planning it's future use.
Well, it was far too good to leave lying on a dirty pavement!
Now the locket was around Bella's neck, and Bella's arms were around mine...what more could I ask?
"Jack, I do love you," she whispered, her lips close to mine. "I can't believe I've found someone so wonderful..."
I stopped the rest of her words with a kiss. I'd always preferred action, and I didn't want to wait too long before suggesting going back to my place. But first some more romancing was called for.
Our kisses became more passionate and as I murmured the usual words that led up to the seduction bit I just knew Bella wasn't going to refuse. Just like Susie she was falling for it.
As a picture of Susie came into my mind I heard a gasp of horror just behind me. My heart sank like a stone as I turned. It was almost as though just thinking about Susie had actually conjured her up!
Bella's arms dropped to her sides as we gazed at Susie. She was standing there, her face a mask of outrage as she stared at the locket. It was a scary moment.
Susie had a temper, but until it erupted you could never be sure which way she'd jump. She might just rant and rave, or she could fly at you, her fingernails searching for the nearest bit of unexposed flesh.
It wasn't long before the direction of her rage manifested itself.
With a sudden lunge Susie grabbed at Bella, her slim fingers curling around the locket
as she yanked it from her neck with the strength of an all-
"How dare you wear that locket!" she screamed. "And how dare you come to this tree!
You've got no right -
With that she took another swing at Bella and that's when I stepped in to separate them. Bella was in tears, not sure what was going on, and much less how to handle it. As I pulled Susie off she gave a yell of pure frustration, flung the locket onto the grass and rushed away, tears streaming down her face.
I breathed a sigh of relief. That had been close. I didn't need scenes like that screwing up my love life, but what I couldn't get over was that Susie hadn't gone for me. As the villain surely I was the one who should have come in for the hysterics, instead she'd taken it all out on Bella.
"Come on, love," I said as I put my arms around her. "Don't get upset. I'm only sorry that had to happen, especially here, under our tree. But I'm afraid Susie's the jealous type."
"But you told...told me...she'd given you up," Bella said between huge sobs.
I sighed and shook my head.
"She did," I said sadly. "But she's the sort of girl who can never really let go. She doesn't want me, but she's not keen on anyone else wanting me either."
